We’re a group dedicated to providing quality, sustainable cloth diapers for those in need. Our mission is to reduce the economic pressures on struggling families by providing them with quality cloth diapers.
Cloth for a Cause had its humble beginning in September 2011. It was started by a single mom in Prince George BC. Cloth for a Cause now has many Cloth for a Cause chapters across Canada.
Right now, the cost of disposable diapers and wipes is about $2,700 from birth to toddler hood. While buying a set of reusable cloth diapers is more economical, not many low income parents have $300-$500 to spend on cloth diapers for their little ones all at once. When you consider that the spending budget meant to cover food, diapers, and everything other then rent for a mother and child on assistance is $250-300, it seems to make more sense to pay $45-$60 per month on disposables.
It is estimated that around 5 million tons of untreated waste is deposited into landfills via disposables every year. If we repair worn cloth diapers and hand them off to be used again, we’re helping to make cloth diapering even more sustainable.
What We Do
We are a Canadian non-profit organization run by volunteers. Our volunteers sanitize, repair and sew cloth diaper starter packages which are then given on loan to low income families. We work with the families to provide advice to ensure a successful transition to cloth diapering.
How You Can Help
We are always in need of:
– cash donations to cover costs of repair supplies, shipping, etc.
– donations of used or new cloth diapers, and cloth diapering accessories such as PUL wetbags and reusable cloth wipes
– materials and supplies to repair diapers and make accessories (e.g. PUL for wetbags and flannel for reusable cloth wipes)
– time to help repair or make cloth diapers and accessories
